60% sentences started with the world "I".

    I think, I saw, I believe, I this, I that...

Totally unaware of it during recording. What a narcissist I am!

This is really annoying. Definitely should try to avoid this problem in next episode.

Good job! Professional! So your dream comes true since the first try back in high school. :)
I think it's ok you use lots of "I" since you are sharing your experience and feelings here. Maybe more background music and more funny stuff are good. Anyway, it's the first episode. Need some introduction. Just be careful do not make it like "reading english texts".
Make it your own podcast: JiangCast. :))

Fantastic! Love the content, love the music and of course, your flawless English. Keep up the good work!

Jie Thank u for the encouragement. My English is anything but flawless. I already found quite a few mistakes here and then in the show. As a matter of fact, improving my English is one of the primary goals making the podcast. Thank you for bearing with me.

shuhui, you are right, the recording sounds stiff and unnatural. I will work on it more. BTW, if you think more music and sound effect are needed that is a sure sign of weak in content... :-|

You are the first one I know who starts a podcast. It feels different to hear a familiar voice in a totally new setup. This IS cool, keep going man.
I like your background music and the cat mimic most.

posted by: Martin on Fri, 8/11 08:04 PM EDT

Hi Martin, the cat mating call is the silliest part. It doesn't resemble the sound from modems at all. Still don't understand why I did it. *-^ I surely hope more and more people will take the plunge and become podcastors themselves

Very impressive! The 1st pro-level podcast from the Chinese student community I've heard. Maybe carry more content for us in your future episodes?

posted by: hua on Sun, 8/13 10:38 AM EDT

hi hua, absolutely, the first episode is aimed at walking through the whole podcast making process. Next one will be more focused and informative.

posted by: probingmind on Sun, 8/13 12:56 PM EDT

Your introduction about your childhood in China was delightful; please weave more of this into future episodes.

Your description of 9/11 should have been very touching. I think if you re-do it in Chinese, the audience back home will be quite moved. The problem for many New Yorkers is that 9/11 has been so abused as an excuse for war and for the unraveling of our civil liberties, that we no longer wish to hear about it.

I appreciate your views on tolerance. New Yorkers live together in relative peace because we subscribe to the view that “one’s right to swing one’s arm ends where the other person’s nose begins?. Thus, we will complain about car alarms going off in the middle of the night, but we do not harass our neighbors over their religious beliefs, or lack of them, or over their private relationships. Besides, we really enjoy each other’s holidays!

The violin music in the background was lovely; perhaps you should end your broadcasts with original violin solos (which will also avoid copyright issues).

I look forward to hearing your views on bird flu and stem cell research.

Lijiang, nice job! I like the story and the music in your podcast. Schindler's list~:)

hey, Jiang. Nice job. I like the back ground music from secrect garden. It sounds more profoundly at night.I mean mid-night actually:)
It is a right time to hear your podcast. Keep going! I will definitely visit here again.

weiwei, I can assure you that I won't piggy bag on nice music forever. The content will shine too one day!

Phyllis, thank you for the comment. I have painted a rosy picture of New Yorkers. That's what people do when they are young and stupid:) hehe... You are right, technically it is not legal to use copyright protected content in podcast. In my own defense, 1) I bought those CDs in the first place. 2) I am not making a dime from the podcast.

Billy Joel, Isaac Perlman, please don't sue me, please!

It's amazing that you still have the British accent after six years of living in U.S. I like it!

posted by: Likelike-Martin's sister on Thu, 8/24 06:36 PM EDT

Where the heck did I pick up British accent? I have never been to UK. I spent the whole high school years reading books on how to speak American English! *_*

posted by: probingmind on Sun, 8/27 02:41 PM EDT

Well well well, I thought we were at the same age and now I know you are younger. In my generation, We learnt British English at High school. And the year I went to high school, new textbook was used and American English got popular....

posted by: likelike-martin's sister on Sun, 8/27 06:55 PM EDT

Correct one typo. When i said "the year i went to high school", I meant the year after i went to high school, the same high school where martin went to. The end.

posted by: Likelike--martin's sister on Mon, 8/28 06:43 AM EDT

No way! I am even one year senior to Martin. Our textbooks were the old version too! Never learned a thing from them.
American English Books I refered to were extracurricular ones. Had I known Bristish English is such a fad here, I would spend more time on those dreadful textbooks! haha
didn't mean to be nosy, but Martin has a sister?

posted by: probingmind on Tue, 8/29 07:39 AM EDT

I am two years senior to Martin. You are right. Martin does not have a "sister" sister. But we happen to have the same family name and people always take us as brother-and-sister. With a frienship of a decade, he is my little brother.

Anyway, good job! I am expecting more interesting stuffs from you. Best wishes to Wen, Wei. I am her big big fan! + U + U!
