You really made us think this time! I felt especially targetted by the comment that "regret is a most wasting emotion." We tend to spend so much time agonizing over having made the wrong choices, whether morally or for our own good, that sometimes we are hesitant to act at all. Yet, accepting responsibility for moral wrongs does imply that we feel regret.
Jun,
I am always fascinated at radio. Podcast is a dream come true to me.
Phyllis,
now we are talking. You brought up a very interesting question. Most of the time, we understand what is the right choice very well, but the combination of lack of will power and emotion swinge keep us from doing the right thing. Accepting full responsibility put me back to the driver's seat. "I knew it is wrong but I couldn't help..." shall have no place in my life from this day and on.
On the other hand. if I genuinely made a wrong decision, I definitely need to go back, think through it and figure out the problem. But that's not regret but healthy self-reflection.
Ji,
Thank you for your perennial support!

It's getting more interesting :-) Most of the time we're not facing the tough choice between morally right and wrong, but more mundane, subtle decisions. As an oversea chinese, cultural uneasiness -- I prefer not to use conflict -- is something I'd like to hear more about your comments/experience. It's a big topic, I know. Even small anecdotes would be great.
Hi Hua, Cultural uneasiness? Hmmm, it is an intriguing topic. I am curious to know if the uneasiness derives from specific incidences you encountered or general impression of lack of acceptance. I will definitely share my thoughts on this with you in the next podcast.
